There are many themes in this book. Some are jovial, and some are emotional. All of the themes are significantly large regarding this book.
Jovial: As soon as Brian gets the dream job of working for The Tigers, he is in pure bliss. Brian has been hoping to get the '' job of his life'' for a while, and finally finds out that he gets it. For example on page 17, as soon as Brian finds out he gets the job, he shouts: '' Mom this is my dream come true!'' Brian could hardly contain himself, he is just poured over with sheer joy and happiness.
Angry: Every time Brian tries to do something nice for Hank, he ends up digging himself into a deeper hole. Brian always seems to be on Hanks bad side, and Hank is always mad at Brian for something or another. Hank consistently blames things on Brian, and treats him like something stuck to the bottom of his shoe. For example, on page 53, Hank tells Brian: '' I wasn't talking to you, was I?'' Brian utters ''No'', and Hank concludes it with: ''Then don't talk to me.'' That displays rudeness at a strong point.
Alone: Brian's dad left for Japan, leaving Brian and his mom to fend for themselves. Brian feels empty and alone with out a dad around anymore. Brian was aware of the fact that his dad was sort of drifting away, but was shocked when he got home from school one day. On page 13, there was a note from Brian's dad that said: '' B- I am no good at being a father, baseball is the only thing I'm good at. Dad.'' That gives us a feeling of how Brian feels on the inside.
