Characters: Brian Dudley: The main character is a fourteen year old boy who gets the summer job of his life. Brian is a colassal fan of the Detriot Tigers, for example on page 14, Brian knows a ton of facts about The Tigers, ''I know that Sparky Anderson said '' Bless you boys.'' To the '84 Tigers. I know that Mayo smith was the manager of The Tigers in 1968, I know the stats of Kirk Gibson, Al Kaline, and my all time favorite player, Hank Bishop.'' That shows the huge fan that Brian is for The Tigers. He gets the job of batboy for the Tigers! Brian lives alone with his mom, because his dad, a former major league player who moved to Japan to work as a pitching coach. Brian also plays baseball in a youth leauge. He lives in Bloom Field, Michigan.
Hank Bishop: The bishop of baseball. Brian's idol and hero. Hank is a major league player who just signed with the Tigers, after serving a fifty game suspension for using performance enhancing drugs (Steriods.) Brian is really excited to be teamates, until he finds out that his idol has a rude personality, for example, on page 95, Brian hands Hank the wrong bat by mistake, and when Hank strikes out, he blames Brian for the error: '' If a batboy can't handle a bat, then what's he doing here?''. That shows his coldness and rudeness clearly.
Kenny Griffin: Brian's best friend, and teamate on their town baseball team, The Sting. Kenny is compassionate and loyal to Brian. For example, on page 26, Brian is worried about his slump at hitting, and Brian asks Kenny if he will be able to get out of his slump, and Kenny tells Brian: '' If you believe, than you can.'' That is a perfect example of friendship. Kenny and Brian support each other and hang out with each other.
