The author of this book is Mike Lupica. He writes about sports allot, and has several novels about sports. Mike Lupica also writes fot The daily news, a newspaper in New York. He lives in Connecuit with his family. Mike Lupica chose to write this book for many reasons. First, he wanted to show the meaning of hope. Not just one kid wants to be the bat boy for The Tigers, they get thousands of applicaints a year. Brian hopes he can get the job, and he finally does. Next, This story shows that anybody can do anything. Brian, a regular kid gets the job of his life, which is working for The Tigers, and Hank Bishop, the man who was a great player, got suspended for steroids, and after everyone thinks he is washed up, comes back to hit his five hundreth career home run. Finally, Mike Lupica wanted to show that people can suprise you. Brian was always treted poorly by Hank, but Hank ends up giving Brian hitting lessons, and, quick as a wink, Brian's opinion of Hank changes drastically, and they finally become friends.
